Strokes & Slants was conceived in London in the early 1980s when principal Beverley East was working for a recruitment consultancy and discovered handwriting analysis. Her first London case was document examination for the Queen Elizabeth Foundation for the Handicapped.
Thirty years later, the London office delivers handwriting identification and questioned document examination services throughout most of Europe and as far as the Middle East, with the bulk of the enquiries coming from the Caribbean diaspora living and working in the UK.
Ms. East consults in other cities in the UK including Birmingham, Sheffield, Luton, etc. Caribbean islands that Ms. East has worked with include St Vincent and the Grenadines, Antigua, Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks & Caicos, Belize, St Kitts & Nevis, and British Virgin Islands. Enquiries from Europe include countries such as the UK, Germany, Spain, Portugal, and others. Other countries where reports have been submitted are Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Brazil.
The standard documents sent for examination are usually Land Transfers, Will and Testaments, Bills of Sale, Promissory Notes and business contracts and contracts from veteran musicians. Ms. East has examined documents in various languages: Arabic, Portuguese, German, Spanish, French and of course, English. The most common documents examined are contracts and powers of attorney.
Ms. East has participated in expert witness training both in Manchester and London through the Cardiff University Law School.
The city of London has a diverse and vibrant population from African, Eastern European and Caribbean peoples. The London office is based in South London in Greenwich along the Thames where merchant ships arrived with their bounty from Africa and India.
